At the April meeting of Victorian GUM Inc the presentation will be by international speaker Colleen Fitzpatrick, Ph.D, her talk will be on Forensic Genealogy and its Application, to be held on Monday April 2nd, commencing at 6:45pm at the Phyllis Hore Room, Kew Library.

Who is Sam Merrifield?

Sam Merrifield spent many years serving the Essendon community. He was an ALP member of the ‎Legislative Assembly for Essendon from 1943-1955, later he was a member of the Legislative Council ‎for the seat of Doutta Galla. After retiring in 1970 he gave his time to the Essendon Historical Society; ‎‎ he also had a 22 year association with the Essendon District Football League. Following his death on ‎the 30th August, 1982, the Essendon Library was renamed in his honour and became the Sam Merrifield ‎Library which now houses the Local History Collection for the area and resources for family history ‎researchers.‎
